A little late, but worth it.....

This one is for J Dilla. My initial intention was to create this in February (Dilla Month). However, things got crazy and I did not have the time. But, better late than never. One thing to note is that this is in NO way a definitive or comprehensive selection of the man's work. (If you don't know, his discography is extensive. Just check stonesthrow.com if you don't believe me). The records contained within these 70 minutes (give or take) are just some of my favorites. All of these tracks were either produced by Dilla or feature his rhymes. Some of the usual suspects are featured like "Fall in Love" by Slum Village and "Runnin" by The Pharcyde. I also threw in some rarer joints like "Diamonds" from Dilla's unreleased MCA album, and the Frank-N-Dank 12 inch "I'll Bet You Will that I had to order from a record store in London. Or, you can throw it on when the weather is lacking and it will make you think of summer days, guaranteed. Scratching is minimal on this one, and it's even smoother and more laid back than it's predecessor.

Basically, since spring is here and the weather is supposed to get nicer, I mixed a bunch of tracks that I listen to or have listened to in the spring or summer. Or, tracks that remind me of said seasons for whatever reason. I even threw in the DJ Premier Remix of D'Angelo's track "Lady" from '96. So, for this past new years eve, I went to a party. I was asked to make a mix for said party. I did. People smiled and gave me pounds.

Note: When I came to the end of my original playlist, I decided to keep going. However, for some reason, Garageband decided to stop recording after an hour and change, so that is why the mix ends rather abruptly. To sum it up, I stopped using Garageband and switched to Audacity.

It Begins......

So, basically, the reason I'm joining the blogging masses is to have all of my mixes in one place. People have been asking me for these, and every time, I have to send out emails with separate links. Then, sometimes days, weeks, even months later, people ask me for the links again, and I have to repeat the process. Hopefully, this blog will facilitate things.

Before I start posting music, I just want to say something about the forthcoming mixes: All of them were cooked up using the following ingredients:  

2 Technic Turntables

1 Rane Mixer

1 Laptop

Various milk crates of vinyl

That's it. No samplers. No effect machines. Just the bare essentials. Furthermore, all of these mixes were created in one take. It's just me spinning and recording for an extended period of time. The music contained within these mixes will most likely be hip-hop dominated, with sprinkles of funk, jazz, and soul to add more flavor. Also, as the weeks go on, I'll probably post links to my radio shows from my time at WNYU.....but, more on that when the time comes.  

I'll try to post frequently, but the site will probably be updated a few times a month.....hopefully. Stay tuned........
